Bob Stainthorp

Starting out in grade 7, Bob discovered woodworking in his industrial arts class at Ashcroft Highschool in BC. After high school, Bob went to work for a framing company and quickly found that his passion was in woodworking. He continued on to earn his journeyman' ticket in carpentry in 1982, which led him to leave the framing company he was working for and start his own company, Orion Renovations LTD; at the same time also applying for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.  Due to the recession, his fire rescue training was cancelled. He continued on with his company business doing home renovations and found it difficult to make a living through the recession. Then in '86 he got a second chance to join the ranks of the EFRS, he kept working in carpentry through out his service, building custom cabinets and kitchens with Merit, Town and Country & Kitchen Craft.

In his old age he got tired of hauling his tools around so he decided it was time to build himself a hobby shop in his attached garage. The cars were downgraded to the driveway pad and the tools found their new permanent home. He began working away in his spare time on small bespoke pieces for friends and family, selling a few pieces here and there. Interest in his work grew with many others contracting him for his creativity; crafting spurtles, to office boardroom tables, all the way up to a cabin on a friends acreage.

Now a retired Firefighter, he is enjoying his wood crafting as a hobby and his passion. He will continue to strive to be an "artist" , relating to his favourite quote:

“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”

~ Saint Francis of Assisi
